The power button on the face of Xbox 360 is encircled by a ring of light. If the console is in order this circle emits green lights. However, if anything goes wrong it flashes red lights.

- First try to restart the console
- If this does not solve the problem, switch off the console and unplug ALL cables and cords. Reconnect all the cables again firmly. Some cables give out a ‘click’ sound when they are properly plugged in. Switch on the console.
- If the problem persists then remove the hard disk after switching off the console. Turn it on to see if the lights are still flashing. If not, then attach the hard disk back in place.
By far, overheating remains the most common problem with Xbox 360 consoles. There may be a case for replacing the thermal compound. This, however, should be attempted at your own risk. If the warranty is still valid try to contact the company for replacement.
